This piece was part of a set of four, each one depicting one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse as a female deity. It spawned from a rather lengthy conversation about 'if the bible had female gods/deities, what would they be'. This was my answer.
This piece depicts Famine. I played with the idea of there being much wealth out there, yet it being held out of reach of the masses. That seems to be the most common occurance of famine in times of war and struggle. The angel's wings were based on a turkey vulture's wings, as they are by far my favorite bird. And I wandered around with the concept of a demeter or 'harvest' type goddess being involved with famine.
Done in colored pencils and watercolors. The original was around 16 by 20 inches.
limited edition prints.. might be available, I'm not sure what I have left in stock.
